Within the project Sostenuto in Marseille in the period from March 23-25, 2011 a professional meeting POTLATCH 2011 was held with the topic ”Artists and territory development“. The meeting was organized by A.M.I. - Centre de Développement pour les Musiques Actuelles from Marseille, one of the partners in the project.

Representative of EXPEDITIO had a presentation in this gathering within the workshop ”Artists and live heritage“.

Our organization is a partner with the municipalities of Kotor, Tivat and Herceg Novi in the process of creation of municipal Programmes for the Development of Culture for the period 2011-2015, pursuant to the Law on Culture of Montenegro. These municipal programs are passed in accordance with the National Programme for the Development of Culture and it should contain: long-term needs of the local population and the stakeholders in the field of culture, development priorities, dynamics of realization, financial and administrative measures for their implementation.

Dear colleagues, we would like to inform you that the Municipalities of Kotor, Tivat and Herceg Novi have initiated the process of creation of the Local Cultural Strategies (programmes for the development of culture) for these three municipalities. The process of creation of strategies, which will be happening in the following four months, was initiated by EXPEDITIO within the project SOSTENUTO - Culture as a factor of economic and social innovation.

Within the project SOSTENUTO, preparatory activities on Mapping Layers of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Boka Bay was initiated, through gathering information on the local festivals, customs, rituals and legends. From our discussions with the citizens of Kotor, Tivat and Herceg Novi, we will try to find out what these segments of culture mean to them in Boka Bay and whether they are familiar with them, whether they consider them cultural heritage with increasing significance nowadays, or whether they see them as legacy from the past which is losing its essence. Also, it is important for the project to what extent the citizens are aware of the fact that this segment of heritage has economic and social potential. In the further text you can read short points from Herceg Novi illustrating the beginning of the activities in the field. Mapping in the field was initiated in February and it will last until June 2011.

Within the SOSTENUTO project, we have begun preparatory activities for the mapping of intangible cultural heritage of Boka Kotorska. The activities are aimed at collecting information about local celebrations/festivals, customs, rituals and legends in the area of Kotor, Tivat and Herceg Novi, which will serve, among other things, for creating a database necessary for the future development of cultural strategies of the these three municipalities. The activities will focus on what the citizens of Boka Kotorska perceive as the most important layers of intangible culture and heritage of Boka Kotorska.
