SOSTENUTO thinking culture as a factor for social and economic innovation... More about the project

How to reinforce the cultural sector's innovation capacity in the Mediterranean zone? How to accompany its mutation towards new economic and social models?The cultural sector represents a strong economic potential and a sector carrying economic and social innovation. Nevertheless, it remains unequally present on the territories, globally little structured and still insufficiently integrated within the policies of territorial development within the Med space. In this framework, SOSTENUTO consists of making evolve the methods of organisation and management of enterprises and associations in the cultural sector. It must particularly enable to test, in this sector, innovative methods of organisation and management - incubator, cluster, local exchange trading system, new forms of territorial governance -that may increase its capacities of innovation, its economic independence and may better valorise its activities within the local, regional and national economies.

EXPEDITIO Centre for Sustainable Spatial Development from Kotor, Pro Story from Podgorica and the Committee for Civic Initiative from Niš organized a "Meeting of independent cultural organizations and initiatives in Montenegro“. The meeting was held on Saturday, the 3rd of July 2010, in the Karver bookstore in Podgorica, with the beginning at 11 a.m.

The non-governmental organization Expeditio from Kotor, in cooperation with:

- the Department for Culture and Social Affairs of the Municipality of Kotor
- the Department for Social Affairs and Public Administration of the Municipality of Herceg Novi and
- the Department for Economic and Social Affairs of the Municipality of Tivat

organized a workshop on "Strategic planning of culture at the local level". The workshop is intended for cultural stakeholders from the territory of Boka Kotorska (representatives of local governments, cultural institutions and non-governmental organizations from the municipalities of Kotor, Tivat and Herceg Novi).

The workshop took place in Kotora (Bizanti Palace in the Old Town Kotor), on Friday, the 2nd of July 2010, with the beginning at 10 a.m.

The workshop is part of the project SOSTENUTO – Thinking culture as a factor of economic and social innovation. Sostenuto is a project implemented in collaboration between six partners from the Mediterranean countries (Spain, Italy, Slovenia, France and Montenegro).

The workshop was run by Mr. Predrag Cvetičanin currently teaching Sociology of the Arts and Culture at the Department of Sociology of the University of Philosophy in Niš, Serbia. Currently he is completing his Ph. D. Studies at the Faculty of Sociology of the University of Belgrade. He has experience in developing cultural strategies and conducting training programmes in culture.

Interviews with cultural policy decision makers at the national and local levels

During April and May 2010, Expeditio conducted interviews with representatives of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Media of Montenegro, the Municipality of Podgorica and the Municipality of Kotor, as part of the activities within the project "Non-Institutional Partakers of Cultural Policy in Serbia, Montenegro and Macedonia". This is a partner project conducted in cooperation between Expeditio and organizations from Serbia and Macedonia. The leading partner of the project is the Committee for Civic Initiative (Odbor za građansku inicijativu) from Niš, Serbia. The main objective of the project is to research the capacities of key partakers in the independent culture scene in Serbia, Montenegro and Macedonia.

Expeditio je u periodu septembar 2009. - mart 2010, sproveo istraživanje ma temu „Kulturne potrebe mladih u Boki Kotorskoj". Projekat je finansiralo Ministarstvo kulture, sporta i medija Crne Gore kroz program sufinansiranja projekata za mlade u 2009. godini, a u okviru realizacije Akcionog plana za mlade za 2009. Ovo istraživanje zamišljeno je kao dio šireg projekta pod nazivom Sostenuto koji Expeditio realizuje u saradnji sa partnerima iz Francuske, Italije, Slovenije i Španije, u okviru MED programa EU. Tema Sostenuto projekta je razmišljanje o kulturi kao o faktoru ekonomske i socijalne inovacije.

EXPEDITIO organized a presentation of the results of the research: Cultural Needs of Youth in Boka Kotorska. The presentation was held on 30 March 2010 (Tuesday) at 7 p.m., in Bizanti Palace, in the Old Town Kotor. The project "Cultural Needs of Youth in Boka Kotorska " was funded by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Media of Montenegro, through a competition for co-financing the projects intended for young people in 2009.

In the Italian town of Chiusi, a meeting of partners of the project “Sostenuto – Thinking culture as a factor of economic and social innovation“ was held on 11-12 March 2010. The project is being implemented as part of the MED Programme of the European Union. The project is implemented in partnership between seven organisations from several European countries.
