malteriOn 18-20 November 2016, a workshop on the use of lime mortars will be held in Kotor and Perast.

The workshop will be organized within the project “Traditional materials and building techniques in Boka Kotorska “ funded by the Headley Trust from Great Britain. The aim of this project is to increase the knowledge and awareness of the use of traditional materials, crafts and construction techniques in the restoration and maintenance of cultural heritage buildings in accordance with the contemporary challenges. The focus of this year’s part of the project is the use of lime mortars in heritage restoration process.

The workshop will consist of two parts:

- On Friday, 18 November 2016, in St. Paul’s church in Kotor, an expert workshop will b held in order to present experiences of the use of lime mortars in Montenegro, through presenting approaches, researches and concrete use of lime mortars and visiting specific sites in Kotor. The workshop will also present regional experiences in this field. Workshop participants will be experts in the field of cultural heritage protection, as well as those who use lime mortars in their work. The workshop is intended to open a discussion on the challenges related to the use of lime mortars and define guidelines for future activities. The workshop will take place from 9.30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- On Saturday, 19 November 2016, the part of the workshop in Perast will include a tour of selected buildings, a session of preparation of lime mortar from quicklime and practical work on restoring grout on Bronza Palace by using traditional techniques and materials.
