In June 2017 was the beginning of implementation of the project “Regeneration of traditional agriculture landscape for sustainable agriculture - AGRISCAPE&ME”.

The project AGRISCAPE&ME is implemented by the organizations EXPEDITIO Centre for Sustainable Spatial Development, Cultural Heritage Association NAPREDAK Gornja Lastva and the Association of Olive Producers “Boka“ – Boka Kotorska. An associate in the project is the Rural Development Network of Montenegro. The project AGRISCAPE&ME began in June 2017 and it will last for 12 months.

The project is funded by the EU within the framework of the regional project “Sustainable agriculture for sustainable Balkans: Strengthening advocacy capacities of CSOs and developing policies in the Western Balkans“. This project is carried out by a regional consortium of civil society organizations from Albania (the Institute for Environmental Policy - IEP), Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FLOROZON), Kosovo* (NGO AKTIV) and Montenegro (Centre for Protection and Research of Birds – CZIP) and is led by the Organization for Respect and Care of Animals – ORCA from Serbia. (* This name is without prejudice to the status of Kosovo and it is in compliance with United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244 and the International Court of Justice advisory opinion on Kosovo’s declaration of independence.)

Starting from a wider understanding of heritage that ”includes all aspects of the environment resulting from the interaction between people and places through time”, cultural landscape presents the widest and most comprehensive category of cultural heritage. An important part of cultural landscape is traditional agricultural landscape, which covers a large area of the Western Balkans countries, including Montenegro. Traditional agricultural landscapes have been developed through history, through different agricultural activities of people at a certain territory. These landscapes contribute to the formation of local cultures and identity, to the value of the overall cultural landscape and represent one of the territory’s basic resources..

The problems the project addresses are that currently in Montenegro the value of traditional agricultural landscapes has not been sufficiently recognized, traditional landscapes have not been officially protected and they have been mostly transformed or devastated and they are not adequately managed. The accelerated loss of agricultural landscapes causes the loss of an important part of cultural landscape and sustainable agriculture, as well.

The overall objective of the AGRISCAPE&ME project is to contribute to developing sustainable agriculture through advocating regeneration, conservation and enhancement of traditional agricultural landscape, as part of the overall cultural landscape.

Specific objectives of the AGRISCAPE&ME project are:

The main activities that will be realized during the project are::

• Creating a platform for traditional agricultural landscape that will include all relevant stakeholders in the fields of agriculture, cultural heritage, landscape and planning
• Developing recommendations for improving the framework for the protection, planning and management of agriculture landscape in Montenegro
• Implementing a pilot project in the village of Gornja Lastva in Vrmac Hill
• Conducting a campaign that promotes traditional agricultural landscape
• Communication and dissemination of project results

We invite you to take part in the presentation of AGRISCAPE&ME project and learn more about the project, its aims and planned activities, as well as about its partners and participants in activities. The presentation will also include the screening of films about the values of Vrmac area and the Natural and Culturo-Hstorical Region of Kotor.

Transport from Tivat to Gornja Lastva will be provided in a van which departs from the main Post Office in Tivat at 7 p.m.
