The Prime Minister Igor Lukšić, at the National Council for Sustainable Development session today, was appointed as the President of this body, while Biljana Gligorić, a representative of NGO Expeditio was appointed as his Deputy. Thereby the committment of the Government to intensify the cooperation with the representatives of the civil society was confirmed.

The Council passed the Agenda for 2011 including topics from all three pillars of sustainable development (economic, environmental and social) and one of the most important activities in this year will be active participation of the Council in celebrating the twentieth anniversary from the proclamation of Montenegro as an environmental state. In accordance with the adopted Plan, the mandates of the Work Groups of the Council for sustainable consumption and production and for monitoring of the process of amending the Law on National Parks were amended. Also, the draft text of the Study on Energy Efficiency in the context of sustainable consumption and production that Montenegro will submit to the United Nations Commission for Sustainable Development in May this year was passed.

Two new formed teams for sustainable development were presented – a cross-sectoral team for sustainable development and a cross-sectoral group for communication of sustainable development. These teams will contribute to strengthening of coordination and efficiency of all sectors in application of the principles and standards of sustainable development, as well as better informing of public on these processes.

On today’s, 20th Session of the National Council for Sustainable Development, Bosiljka Vuković, temporary manager of the Office for Sustainable Development was appointed as the Council Secretary, and the other members are: Predrag Sekulić, Minister of sustainable development and tourism; dr Vladimir Kavarić, Minister of Economy; Tarzan Milošević, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development and Aleksandar Žurić, President of the Municipality of Bijelo Polje.
