At the invitation of the non-governmental organization ANIMA from Kotor, a representative of EXPEDITIO took part at the final conference of the project “Promotion of the European charter for equality of women and men in local life”. The conference was held in Mostar, on November 2, 2012. A chapter of this charter is dedicated to the topic of Planning and Sustainable Development treated from gender perspective.

The regional project “Promotion of the European charter for equality of women and men in local life” has been conducted in four towns: Kotor, Kraljevo, Mostar and Niš – the Municipality of Medijana. It is implemented by the Association Fenomena from Kraljevo in partnership with the organizations: Local Democracy Center LDA from Nis, Serbia; ANIMA Center for women’s and peace education from Kotor, Montenegro; Association of citizens Local Democracy Agency Mostar from Bosnia and Herzegovina; and The Kvinna till Kvinna Foundation from Stockholm, Sweden.

The conference presented an opportunity for all the project participants, supporters and stakeholders to exchange their knowledge and experience regarding the issues of gender equality in local policies.

Gender equality implies that men and women have equal preconditions for exercising human rights. In addition, gender equality implies that there are equal opportunities for men and women to contribute to the cultural, political, economic, social and national progress, and that they have identical opportunities to enjoy all the benefits arising from the progress of a community.
