A representative of Expeditio took part in round table entitled “Smart building” which took part on December 15th in the Cultural Center REX in Belgrade. “Smart building” is a call to people who would like to discover the ways to construct affordable city housing for those who do not own a dwelling and could not buy one under the current market conditions. The organizer of this round table, the initiative Ko gradi grad (Who Builds the City), brings together a group of people who wish to practically learn how to obtain an apartment through acceptable investments and minimal real price – people who are interested in and ready for planning, investing and building together – in a smarter way – by planning collectively, investing responsibly (their time, knowledge, work ability and/or financial resources) and by building intelligently.
The round table on December 15th included discussions on tradition and practice of “building by yourself” in Serbia, on ways to cooperate, form partnerships and make decisions, legal possibilities and standards that need to be applied or re-thought in order to realize this kind of an initiative, both as a real, case-study project and as a new and widely applicable model of building.
Who Builds the City? has been initiated by Group 484, STEALTH.unlimited and Cultural Center REX in Belgrade and it is organized with support of Heinrich Böll Foundation. In the previous years the initiative has been supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Serbia and the Open Society Institute.
