The process of mapping public spaces on the territory of the municipality of Kotor started at the beginning of June, and was launched in order to analyse the potential of such spaces for possible future activities in the field of culture. This activity is implemented within the process of drafting the Programme for the development of culture in the municipality of Kotor from 2011 to 2015. The mapping is carried out based on physical and aesthetic characteristics of public spaces, accessibility, existing manner of their utilization etc. In the forthcoming period, this activity will be implemented in municipalities Tivat and Herceg Novi.

The implementation of these activities a component of the projectSostenuto. A part of funds has been provided by the Employment Agency of Montenegro through the Programmne of Performing Local Public Works.

From 30 May until 3 June 2011, a delegation of representatives of cultural institutions from the Municipalities of Kotor, Tivat and Herceg Novi had a study tour in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Our host was the non-governmental organization Bunker from Ljubljana, one of Expeditio’s partners in the Sostenuto project. The aim of the visit was to acquaint the cultural sector representatives from the municipalities in Boka Kotorska with the Slovenian good practices in cultural resources management.

On April 28 and 29, 2011 in Tivat and Kotor two workshops were organized for defining of strategic priorities, in the process of creation of the Programmes for the Development of Culture for these municipalities. In the workshops, attended by significant stakeholders and culture experts from these towns, SWOT analysis was created (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) as well as identification of strategic goals and priorities.

Local public service Radio Kotor joined the process of creation of the Local Programme for the Development of Culture for Kotor for the following five-year period. The journalist Jelena Vukasović asked public officials and culture stakeholders how they see the future of Kotor, within their field of activity. According to Law on culture of Montenegro, the Municipality of Herceg Novi has initiated the process of creation of municipal Programme for the Development of Culture for the period 2011-2015. The municipal program is adopted in accordance with National Program for the Development of Culture 2011-15 and should contain: long-term needs of the local inhabitants and the entities in the field of culture, development priorities, dynamics of realization, financial and administrative measures for their implementation.

With the aim of including the public to the broadest possible extent, collection of data and information of importance for culture development strategy of Herceg Novi, the culture stakeholders, the interested citizens, were invited to give their contribution in this initial phase of work on the programme, by giving suggestions, proposals and opinions. In cooperation with our organization, in the Large Hall of the Municipality of Herceg Novi, on April 27-28, 2011 round tables on various topics were organized.

Internet pages where you can follow the process of creation of the local Programmes for the Development of Culture 2011-15 for the municipalities of Tivat, Kotor and Herceg Novi are set up. In these pages there is a questionnaire through which you may participate by giving suggestions, ideas and comments. We hereby thank all for participating in the process.
