Medieval Towns of Montenegro

In 2004 EXPEDITO conducted the campaign “Medieval Towns of Montenegro” aimed at presenting and promoting the medieval towns of Montenegro as an insufficiently known cultural-historical segment of the Montenegrin past and culture, and recognizing these localities as unique and attractive cultural itineraries which could attract a considerable number of tourists. Donors: UNDP-United Nations Development Programme and Rockefeller Brothers Fund, USA.

IN PREPARATION – MEDIEVAL TOWNS OF MONTENEGRO, THE SECOND EDITION

EXPEDITIO is preparing the second edition of the publication “Medieval Towns of Montenegro”. The publication is based on the book by Professors Pavle Mijovic and Mirko Kovacevic “Medieval Towns and Fortifications in Montenegro". The size of the publication is 16 x 22 cm; it has 80 pages, in full colour. Part of the needed funds, to the amount of 1.500 €, was obtained from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Media of Montenegro at the competition for co-financing projects and programmes in the field of cultural-artistic work in 2008.

Medieval Towns of Montenegro

Description: The project “Medieval Towns of Montenegro” represents a first big step towards including these localities, as a unique thematic whole, into the modern life of Montenegro. The citizens have become acquainted with this part of their heritage, and tourists with an interesting offer of the Montenegrin tourism. n Montenegro today there are over 50 towns and fortifications from the medieval period, but only a smaller number of them (20%) is accessible and known to people and tourists. Over 40 sites are gradually descending or have already descended into oblivion.
