GRADSKI TRGOVIThe project Revival of City Squares in Balkan Cities was implemented during 2011-2012 The project aimed to contribute to the revival of city squares as viable public places that foster cultural identity and promote diversity through enforcement of public policies and active community participation. The project lead partner was organization Co-PLAN, Institute for Habitat Development from Tirana, Albania; while the project partners were: Coalition for Sustainable Development KOR from Skopje, Macedonia; EXPEDITIO from Kotor, Montenegro and Polis University (International School of Architecture and Urban Development Policies) from Tirana, Albania.

grupna-kotor1In the period 29 August - 4 September 2011, NGO Expeditio organized the workshop “Kotor City Squares”. The workshop was part of the project “Revival of City Squares in Balkan Cities”.

The project “Revival of City Squares in Balkan Cities” aims to contribute to the revival of city squares as viable public places that foster cultural identity and promote diversity through enforcement of public policies and active community participation. It is conducted in partnership of the organizations Co-PLAN and U-Polis from Albania, the Coalition for Sustainable Development from Macedonia and EXPEDITIO, Montenegro.

The project is funded by the Swiss Cultural Programme in the Western Balkans (SCP) under the Regional Cooperation Projects programme line. The project includes the organizing of three architectural workshops (in Tirana, Durres, Skoplje and Kotor), which are supported by the Foundation Open Society Macedonia (FOSIM), through the East East: Partnership beyond Borders Program.

TiranaThe workshop “Suburban Exchange” (Tirana, 18-25 July 2011) is organised within the project “Revival of City Squares in Balkan Cities”.

The project “Revival of City Squares in Balkan Cities” aims to contribute to revival of city squares as sustainable public places which preserve cultural identity and promote differences through implementation of public policies and active involvement of community. It is implemented in partnership with Co-PLAN and U-Polis from Albania, Coalition for Sustainable Development from Macedonia, and EXPEDITIO. The project donor is Swiss Cultural Programme in the Western Balkans (SCP) within the Regional Cooperation Projects programme.

The lead partner of the project is Co-PLAN, Institute for Habitat Development from Tirana, Albania | while other partners are: the Coalition for Sustainable Development (CSD) from Skoplje, Macedonia; EXPEDITIO from Kotor, Montenegro and Polis University (International School of Architecture and Urban Development Policies from Tirana, Albania.

The project will last for two years, until December 2012.

The project is funded by the Swiss Cultural Programme in the Western Balkans (CSP) under the Regional Cooperation Projects programme line.

Within the project Oživljavanje gradskih trgova u balkanskim gradovima Research on city squares in Kotor is realized.

This project, aimed at contributing to revival of city squares as viable public places, is realized by EXPEDITIO in partnership with organizations·Co-PLAN and Polis University from Tirana and·Coalition for Sustainable Development KOR from Skopje.

Paralel to research on city squares in Kotor the partners from Albania and Macedonia are conducting research on squares in Tirana, Durres and Skopje.

As its overall goal, the project “Revival of City Squares in Balkan Cities” aims to contribute to the revival of city squares as viable public places that foster cultural identity and promote diversity through enforcement of public policies and active community participation. The action intends to achieve two major specific objectives: to promote national and regional policy discourse on how city squares can be transformed into pulsating community places and develop a platform for transforming open public spaces into vibrant places that serve community needs.

EXPEDITIO is a non-governmental organization whose mission is to encourage sustainable spatial development in Montenegro and SEE region through activity in the fields of sustainable architecture, cultural heritage, urban planning and through projects that encourage overall development of the civil society. Expeditio was established in 1997.
